IMG Media, a division of IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company, has been commissioned by Disney XD to produce a series of football entertainment programs – ‘Disney XD Football Academy’ - to be aired on the channel in the summer.
The 5 x 15-minute shows will be seen on Disney XD in the channel's Nordic regions - Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
The series follows three top Scandinavian youth players as they travel to England for a series of football skill challenges set by Norway and Fulham FC player John Arne-Riise and presenter Charlotte Lade, the female freestyle football World Champion.
Disney Channel Scandinavia's commissioning executive Matthew Eriksson said: "Disney XD is all about fun and daring to challenge yourself and your ambition. This production is a great example of just that as it features insights to a massively popular sport and aspirational role models. We very much look forward to sharing it with our audience."
The series is produced by James Reilly and developed by Alex Gale, who said: "We have been able to create football entertainment which is also informative. We feature football skills and fitness challenges from John and Charlotte as well as a peek into the different aspects of the Premier League - from TV production to what life is like for the star players of a top club."
The three young players go behind the scenes at Fulham, experience the excitement of a live game, spend time with Riise at home and received TV commentating lessons from the voice of Sky Sport’s Premier League coverage, Martin Tyler.
